NextGEng Team Teaching Pilot Program
NextGEng Team Teaching Pilot Program (TTPP) is one of the main activities planned to be implemented in the project. TTPP brings a new international and cooperative dimension to already existing courses in the curricula of HEI partners by creating new content and teaching methods that enable participation of lecturers and company experts in the learning process. In this way, students can benefit from the best practices and methods of each HEI and knowledge of the partner companies in applying the theory to practice.
A flexible, modular design of courses is proposed in terms of contents and levels so that students can adapt their learning process based on their capacities and background. New study cases and laboratory work are developed in direct connection with real examples from industry. The new learning materials integrates eco-friendly elements in direct connection with the theory, with the scope of sustaining the development of student green competences. All courses are designed focusing on features of student-centered learning, experiential learning and self- and peer-evaluation.
The implementation road map for the NextGEng TTPP program is presented in the above figure. The activity started with a Training seminar for the participating teachers in the program, organized by JAMK in January 2023. Next two rounds of course upgrading and co-teaching implementation were organized.
Across the two rounds of the TTPP, more than 140 international course, laboratory, and project team-teaching sessions were conducted. These activities brought together 27 university lecturers, 15 company experts, and over 1000 students, combining academic insight with industry experience to develop practical, industry-relevant competencies.
The 1st TTPP round
The first round of course upgrading involved four of six courses: Strength of Materials (C1), Industrial Automation (C2), Design Project (C3) and Quality Assurance and Applied Methods (C4). The upgrading process started in February 2023 and ended in September 2023.
The new developed pedagogical materials and methods were putted to the test during 2023 autumn and 2024 spring semesters. This marked the start of the cooperative teaching in three partner universities. There has been teaching mobilities from all three partner universities and to all three partner universities.
The 2nd TTPP round
The second round of the course upgrading included two courses: Computer Aided Design (C5) and Manufacturing Technology (C6). The upgrading process started in February 2024 and successfully ended in September 2024.
Following the second course upgrade phase (C5 and C6),the co-teaching activity in Round 2 started in September 2024 and ended as planned in July 2025. Teachers and company experts delivered the new content for all six courses (C1–C6) across the 2024-2025 academic year.
Best Practice Guide – International Team Teaching
A best practice guide was developed to be used to promote the pilot program within partner HEIs, to Associated Partners, and to new HEIs and companies.
The guide promote the results of the NextGEng project and aims to support future collaboration with new partners. It brings together the outcomes of the co-teaching implementation and examples of newly developed teaching materials.
The document also serve as a reference for other HEIs and industry partners interested in adopting international team-teaching practices, ensuring that the experience and knowledge gained within the consortium continue to generate impact.
